Acupuncture

Acupuncture utilizes the insertion of thin, sterile, stainless steel needles at precise locations and depths to alter the body's biochemical and physiological properties. This occurs primarily through stimulation of the central nervous system. This stimulation releases neurotransmitters, such as endorphins and serotonin into the bloodstream, helping to reduce pain and provide relaxation. The National Institute of Health, American Medical Association, and American Veterinary Medical Association all recognize acupuncture as a valid modality useful for a variety of applications.

General conditions that might benefit from acupuncture are:

  • Musculoskeletal Disorders: arthritis, degenerative joint disease, hip dysplasia, intervertebral disc disease, post surgical pain/healing
  • Gastrointestinal Disorders: inflammatory bowel disease, chronic/acute diarrhea, chronic constipation, nausea, decreased appetite, megacolon in cats
  • Skin Disorders: lick granulomas, chronic allergies, decrease wound healing time
  • Neurologic Disorders: seizures and nerve disorders
  • Respiratory Disorders: chronic asthma
  • Ocular Disorders: KCS/dry eye
  • Any condition that is decreasing the quality of life for your pet and not responding to traditional western medicine.

Canine Massage

Canine massage is a therapeutic discipline that involves directly working with all of the soft tissues of a dog’s body in order to assist the dog in achieving relief from a variety of physical and emotional challenges, including muscular soreness, chronic stress, and more.

The many benefits of massage include:

  • Enhance muscle tone and range of motion.
  • Reduces inflammation and swelling in the joints, thereby alleviating pain.
  • Promotes the healing process by increasing the flow of nutrients to the muscles, and aiding in carrying away excessive fluids and toxins.
  • Creates a positive effect on the contractual and release process of the muscles...releasing tension...relaxing muscles.
  • Stimulates circulation by: defrosting frozen muscles, thereby releasing endorphins - the body's natural pain killers.
  • Helps to maintain the whole body in better physical condition.

Cold Laser Therapy

Cold laser therapy is a safe and gentle holistic modality used to stimulate the body’s own internal healing mechanisms through the use of photons or concentrated light energy. These photons (packets of light) penetrate injured cells of the body at the cellular level without producing heat. The cells are then stimulated thus increasing cellular metabolism and circulation, resulting in the decrease of inflammation and pain.

Laser therapy has been proven to enhance immune system function, improve nerve function, decrease pain, expedite wound healing, improve vascular activity, and accelerate tissue growth and repair.

It has proven effective in the treatment of many conditions including:

  • arthritis,
  • hip dysplasia,
  • dermatitis,
  • ear infections,
  • periodontal disease,
  • cystitis,
  • anal gland infections

NAET (Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Techniques)

NAET was discovered by Dr. Devi S. Nambudripad in November of 1983. Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Techniques, also known as NAET, are a non-invasive, drug free, natural solution to alleviate allergies of all types and intensities using a blend of selective energy balancing, testing and treatment procedures from acupuncture / acupressure, allopathy, chiropractic, nutritional and kinesiological disciplines of medicine.

We now know that many disorders (in humans) (e.g. headaches, back aches, joint pains, addiction, PMS, indigestion, cough, body aches, etc. ) are caused by undiagnosed allergies. When left untreated, allergies can become serious life threatening illnesses.

Relative to our animal friends, NAET has been effective in addressing their allergies on a similar basis such as environmental, chemicals, foods, vaccinations, emotions, etc. Treatment, involving both animals and children, the practitioner will use a surrogate in preforming the NAET technique.

For detailed explanation of techniques and information, please visit Dr. Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Techniques website at www.naet.com

Therapeutic Exercises

Exercises are an important part of many rehabilitation cases. They can vary from simple range-of-motion that improves/maintains flexibility to complicated exercises to retrain an animal to walk. Exercises many times will be designed specifically for each individual patient, so there is no set type or quantity of exercise.

Here are some general types of exercise:

  • Passive Range of Motion Exercises increase nutrition availability at the joint cartilage, stimulate new cartilage production, and are used to increase a joint’s range of motion
  • Stretching Exercises increase circulation and muscle flexibility.
  • Proprioception Exercises are used to help an animal know where their feet are in relation to the ground, to their body, and to each other.
  • Strengthening exercises build up individual muscles or muscle groups.
  • Weight Shifting Exercises help an animal learn to utilize the affected limb. This eventually helps an animal to be more balanced.
  • Walking (ambulation) Exercises are used to re-educate a severely weakened animal on how to move properly.
